Course Overview:
During the design and development of medical devices, it is prudent to understand the intellectual property (IP) landscape, particularly the patent landscape, early into the product development cycle for multiple reasons. This seminar is designed to inform engineers, designers, and project managers how knowledge of the competitive patent landscape can improve the company‚Äôs own intellectual property protection and potentially reduce the risk associated with speed to market of the new product. Companies proactive approach to incorporating IP awareness into their product development processes are more likely to experience success.

Specifically, this seminar will focus on:

1) Understanding provisional patent application process and its benefits
2) Ascertaining the potential patent related risks associated with launching a new medical device
2) Learning the scope of patent search
3) Realizing the benefit of using the information from the patent search to improve the quality of patents and reduce overall patent risk
